Magical Forest is a standalone level that I created using Unreal Engine 4. I used this as a level design challenge for myself and aimed to create a nighttime, lantern-lit scene in the center of a whimsical forest.
This exercise taught me a great deal about using post processing effects and various lighting tools within Unreal (ie. Global Illumination, Area Lights, Fog, etc). I went through many iterations of colors/lighting effects before finding my ideal settings with overall light levels and a color palette.
Additionally, I learned how to harness material blueprints in order to create efficient, self illuminated models that worked well with a bloom effect.
While the trees and mushrooms are sourced, the lanterns were something I created using Blender, and created materials for in Unreal Engine 4,
